The Allan House is an historic
home located in the heart of downtown Austin. Built in 1883, the Allan House has been restored
and developed into a unique and diverse venue. Step back in time more than a century to when
John T. Allan, a Scottish immigrant and educator, built this grand Victorian mansion. Austin
was a very different place back then, and the Allan House is one of only a few landmarks
if its era remaining remarkably unchanged. |

Just inside the
gated grounds, majestic oaks, some of the largest in central Austin, canopy the Allan House
with cooling shade and gentle dappled light. A large stone patio and walkway wind around
the house where native Texas blossoms and heirloom roses grow.
At the entryway of the home,
the original heart pine floors are warm and welcoming and the cut leaded glass transom windows
are remindful of a more gracious time. Every detail, from the original cast metal door knobs
and hinges to the home's airy porches, baroque columns, and exquisite windowed parlors, has
been painstakingly restored. Though outwardly boasting its 19th-century roots, the Allan
House restoration project embraces many 21st-century conveniences.
